During 2018 I was initially engaged by a national mid tier law firm to assist in fixing some processes they knew were inefficient, but no one could find dedicated time to implement the change.  The first thing I did was conduct a survey of some of the staff who engaged with the Accounts Team regularly.  Interestingly, this found that the issues Management thought were important to fix were not as important as some others (this is not the first time this has happened which is why this process is so important!)

I was engaged 1 to 2 days a week and strategically worked through the following:

​

• Establish the process of making Trust Account payments by EFT

• Established an Uber Business Account

• Reviewed cabcharge e-ticket process and optimised spreadsheets and use of online reports

• Reviewed and adjusted Corporate Credit Card process. Part of the solution was to write a short policy to outline process and responsibilities of each party – Accounts, Card Holders, Card Holder’s assistants

• Reviewed Online Search Provider and wrote Recommendation Paper to change.  This is being implemented this year.

 

This was all being done as they were at the beginning stages of implementing a new Practice Management System.  This is something I recommend.  You don’t want to put new technology to poor or old processes.  The work I had done and relationships I had built then lent itself perfectly to be able to assist in their implementation when they needed extra resources.  I became the internal lead for the Accounts portion of that implementation.
